Extract

#tar zxf solr-4.7.0.tgz  -C ~/

 

Start

#cd ~/solr-4.7.0/example

#java -jar start.jar

 

Adimn

http://localhost:8983/solr

In Solr, a core is composed of a set of configuration files, Lucene index files, and Solr’s transaction log. One Solr server running in Jetty can host multiple cores.
